Setting Up Your Computer

If you are using an office computer, talk to your IT department before downloading or installing anything. They will likely be able to help you set up your system.

You can avoid some technical challenges by taking the time to perform the following steps:

Step 1:  Perform the D2L System Check at the bottom of the page before you login at https://cpled.desire2learn.com/.  The system check covers these areas:

  • Your browser supports Javascript
  • Your browser is fully compatible with Desire2Learn
  • Cookies are enabled
  • Computer display meets the minimum requirements

If you fail a component of the system check, you will receive a pop-up error message explaining why you failed and what actions to take to meet the requirements.

Step 2: Many browsers are supported by D2L, but a few are recommended. Even if you passed the browser test in Step 1, you may want to consider using one of the following if possible:

  • For Windows – Internet Explorer 9 or Firefox 6.0
  • For Mac OS X – Firefox 6.0 or Safari 5.0

Step 3:  Update your Adobe Acrobat Reader at http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Both PC and MAC users should use Acrobat Reader as the default PDF Viewer.

Step 4:  If you use third party toolbars (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) you are advised to disable or remove them. They are known to interfere with some D2L functionality.

Step 5:  Disable Pop-up Blockers. Pop-up blocking functions are included in some anti-virus, internet security utilities, personal firewalls, browsers, and browser toolbars. Disable the pop-up blocking feature in these applications or add the cpled.desire2learn.com site as an allowed site.
